This is Moraine Lake!, just not the typical image one usually sees. I have other images of this iconic lake, taken from mostly the same location BUT this one, on this day, showed why the Rockies are constantly providing special moments.
I had come to Moraine Lake to shoot the sunrise. It was the last day of August and the nip of Fall like cooler air greeted me when I arrived. A cold mass of air had settled into the valley of the Wenkchemna Peaks which surround Moraine Lake. As the sun began to rise and the first rays of sunlight streamed into the valley, the mist began to stir and rise above the lake. For a brief but engaging moment, the light was split into shafts of color, the mist rose above the lake water to reveal the stunning signature watercolor, and I got a view of Moraine Lake like no other. This image, though not the classic view ( and I do have images of the classic view in my collection), is my most cherished of the icon - Moraine Lake
